Why You Will Love These Clusters
- So Simple - All you need to do in order to make these clusters is combine the ingredients inside a mixing bowl, spoon them into cupcake liners and top with some extra zest.
- Amazing Orange Flavors - The orange zest is both stirred into the clusters, as well as on top of them. This means that the chocolate is infused with a zesty taste of orange which is is super strong and tangy. Some other orange recipes that I think you will love include my vegan orange almond cake and eggless orange blueberry cake loaf.
- Few Ingredients - These orange and macadamia clusters only require 4 ingredients. Chocolate, macadamia nuts, ground flaxseeds and orange zest. This is another reason as to why this recipe is so easy to follow.
- Allergy Friendly & Plant Based - This vegan chocolate orange macadamia nut clusters recipe is fully vegan, gluten free and dairy free.
Ingredient Notes
- Vegan dark chocolate - The dark chocolate needs to be melted and mixed together with the three other ingredients to make the clusters.
- Macadamia nuts - For this recipe, you need to use whole macadamia nuts, as opposed to chopped macadamia nuts or macadamia flakes. The texture of the clusters won't be the same if you use the wrong type. I also used this type of nut for my vegan white chocolate macadamia nut cookies.
- Ground flaxseed meal - I love to add ground flaxseed meal to the clusters as it makes them a little healthier. This superfood is known to support and improve digestive health, as well as helping cholesterol levels. I also used flax in my vegan raspberry coconut slices and my vegan red velvet cake slices recipes to give them both a slightly more nutritious edge.
- Orange zest - This powerful ingredient infuses the macadamia nut clusters with a powerful orange flavor.
See recipe card for full information on individual ingredients and quantities.
Substitutions & Variations
- Chocolate orange tastes great alone with flaxseeds but why not add another topping? I love adding a second type of nut to the outer shell such as, finely chopped hazelnuts or chopped peanuts (which I used for my frozen yogurt peanut butter strawberry bites). I also love to sprinkle on some desiccated coconut from time to time.
- If you're not too keen on the bitterness of dark chocolate you can use vegan milk chocolate instead. This will give the macadamia nut clusters a much creamier and neutral taste in comparison to the dark chocolate that this recipe calls for. Choose whichever your prefer!

Expert Tips
Use baking-specific chocolate - Baking-specific dark chocolate melts far better than most other types of chocolate. When I tested this recipe, I originally tried chocolate chips but they simply don't melt very well. They often turn clumpy over the heat.
Don't set them for too long in the fridge - If you leave them to set for too long inside the fridge, they will quickly become too hard. This means that they will ultimately be very difficult to bite through.
Recipe FAQs
Yes, these are completely gluten free! They contain chocolate, flaxseed meal, orange and nuts.
They are made from chocolate that has been mixed together with macadamia nuts and then set in the fridge to harden. That would be the most basic version, although I have added a couple extra ingredients.
If the chocolate you are using is above 70% cocoa it makes these clusters a very healthy snack.
Store these no-bake, chocolate treats at room temperature or inside the fridge for up to 5 days.
